In 2016, reports came out showing that many millennials are choosing to have pets instead of kids. Being a pet parent was all the rage. But a research report came out in 2021 saying that plants were the new pets.
Regardless of whether you’re a pet parent or a plant parent, being a child’s parent is becoming a less appealing option for millennials, and possibly Gen-zs. Earlier this year, Pope Francis spoke out against people’s disinterest in having children and called those who choose to have pets instead selfish. But the truth is that perhaps younger generations have a new perspective on child-rearing.
