Just Bach September Concert
Wed September 18, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 12:30 pmFree
Join us on September 18 as we kick off our 2nd season! The Just Bach concert series resumes, as part of the weekly free noontime ‘Music at Midday’ concerts in the gorgeous Sanctuary of Luther Memorial Church.
Our Season-Opener is an instrumental program titled ‘Gamba Sonatas without the Gambas.’ Of the three sonatas written for viola da gamba and harpsichord BWV 1027-1029, we’ll hear the first and third, but in alternate versions. First on the program is the hauntingly beautiful Sonata No. 3 in G Minor BWV 1029, performed on viola (da braccio) and harpsichord. Following that will be the jaunty Sonata in G Major BWV 1039, the Trio Sonata arrangement Bach made of the Sonata No. 1 BWV 1027.
Just Bach regulars Linda Pereksta and Monica Steger, traverso, and Marika Fischer Hoyt, viola, return to the stage, joined by cellist Lindsey Crabb and harpsichordist John Chappell Stowe making their Just Bach debuts.
Just Bach Artistic Team member soprano Sarah Brailey leads the chorale singalong, a beloved audience-participation feature of these programs.
Bring your lunch, bring your ears and your voice, bring a friend, but most of all bring yourself to this delightful program of J.S. Bach.
Free and open to the public, with a goodwill offering collected.
