MEDIA ADVISORY

On September 22nd, Veterans, members of the Armed forces, and the public will participate in the third annual Operation Ruck 22 to raise awareness of the 20 veteran suicides that occur every day.
The event is a 22-mile rucksack march which is sponsored by the three Veterans for Foreign Wars (VFW) Posts and Auxiliaries located in Madison. Marchers step off at 7:30am from VFW Post 8483, 5737 County Hwy CV, to VFW Post 1318, 133 E. Lakeside St., and ends at VFW Post 7591, 301 Cottage Grove Rd.
The VFW’s mission is to foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts. To serve our veterans, the military and our communities. To advocate on behalf of all veterans.
The mission of the VFW Auxiliary is supporting the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving Veterans, active-duty military and their families, and spreading patriotism nationwide.
Operation Ruck 22’s mission is to end Veteran Suicide by creating awareness by Veterans, Veteran families, and the public of the situation, and by providing means for those at risk to get the help they need. The ruck march brings awareness to the number of Veteran suicides each day.
Donations collected during this year’s event will be donated to the following 501(c)(3) charities: Dryhootch, Back to Basic Training, and Connected Warriors. The mission of these organizations supports prevention of Veteran suicide.
Dryhootch is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization formed by combat Veterans to help Veterans in their return home. It is a place where Veterans can gather informally in a coffee house; a safe, comfortable, drug-and-alcohol-free environment.
Back to Basic Training is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to empowering, strengthening, and aiding in the rehabilitation of our community heroes through a synergistic approach involving adaptive fitness programs, mindfulness practices, and the deepening of social connections.
Back to Basic Training was formed to provide disabled and/or wounded veterans and first responders with access to exercise settings and classes that motivate and encourage them to become part of a community.
1.1.1 Connected Warriors is a nonprofit charity built on a unique combination of Veterans and Yoga instructors. The Connected Warriors mission is to empower service members, Veterans and their Families worldwide through “Trauma-Conscious Yoga”.
