Sing with Tanya Tagaq

Tue October 17 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

When Tagaq tours, the choir is local and so we’re looking for singers. If you’re interested in participating in this unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience, please email me, esty.dinur@wisc.edu. Participating will involve rehearsals on 10/6 and 10/7, and the performance on 10/7. Participants will receive a pair of tickets to the show and another pair to a 2017-2018 season  show of their choice in Shannon Hall, excluding Arlo Guthrie.

I hope that you can join us. Please also forward this to the people you know who may be interested so they can get in touch with me. If you prefer, organize a group and be the point person working with me. Please let me know ASAP if you’d like to join us in this adventure. I plan to be on-stage as part of the choir. I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Join me! -Esty Dinur, Communications, Community Relations and Publicity Director, Wisconsin Union Theater

The native Inuk (Inuit) throat singer from Canada’s Arctic Circle toned, bellowed, roared and bawled while performing in front of a screen where the world’s first documentary, Nanook of the North, was projected. Nanook is a silent movie but through Tagaq the audience could hear the seal, the ice, the hope and fear of the native hunter and his family, all while watching the singer twist and swing, bend and shapeshift. it was a shamanic performance that left the audience, yours truly included, speechless.

The good news is, Tagaq is returning to the theater, this time to Shannon Hall. On 10/7/2017 she’ll be doing her “Retribution” program.
