On May 31, 2019, the Illinois House of Representatives voted 66-47 to approve a bill that would legalize recreational marijuana in the state of Illinois. The House vote followed a bipartisan state senate vote of 38-17 in favor. The bill now heads to the desk of Governor J.B. Pritzker, who has said he will sign it. If approved, Illinois will become the 11th state to legalize the use of cannabis, and the first to do so through the legislature, instead of citizen referendum. North of the border, Wisconsin’s statutes still classify possession, distribution or use of marijuana, for any purpose, as a felony. On May 17, 2019, Wisconsin Assembly 78th District Representative Melissa Sargent introduced Assembly Bill 220, her fourth attempt to legalize cannabis in the state. Melissa Sargent joined Monday Buzz host Brian Standing on June 3, 2019.
