Chicago jazz is the theme for this Thursday’s edition of Strictly Jazz Sounds from 2-5pm. Host Steve Braunginn presents an offering of musicians who currently reside and are based in the Chicago area along with some favorites, such as Lee Konitz, Johnny Griffin, Richard Davis and Jack DeJohnette who were in Chicago in their early years but left to reside in other cities in the US and overseas. Also featured is good dose of current and now deceased members of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), such as Roscoe Mitchell, Corey Wilkes, Nicole Mitchell, Hanah Jon Taylor as well as Lester Bowie and Malachi Favors as well as contemporary influential Chicago guitarist Bobby Broom. Lesser known but popular nonetheless include Joan Hickey, Kelly Brand, Isaiah Collier and Mark O’Connor along with favorites Makaya McCraven, Dee Alexander, Marquis Hill and Geof Bradfield.
