Is Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea relevant to young performers and a modern audience? On Nov. 16, 18, & 20, UW Opera presents this masterpiece about the woman who schemed to become empress with Nero. Baroque opera specialist Christa Patton talked about the challenges in staging the opera with John W. Barker and Alan Muirhead on the Sunday, Nov. 11 edition of Musica Antiqua (the full version of the interview is at https://soundcloud.com/wort-fm/christa-patton-raw-interview-wort-2018-11-11).
November 11 was also the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended WWI. We’ll observe this anniversary, as well as 400 years since the beginning of the 30 Years War in Europe, with music about war, battles, victory and loss from the time of the Crusades to the American Revolution. Musica Antiqua, November 11, 8-11am.
