The results of the midterm election in Wisconsin are in! Labor turned out en masse throughout 2022 to help elect candidates up and down the ballot who support workers and to hold out against a republican supermajority that would have been able to override the governor’s vetoes of anti-worker bills.
Labor-endorsed candidates who won include Tony Evers for Wisconsin governor; Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez; and incumbent Attorney General Josh Kaul. Mandela Barnes narrowly lost a bid for the US senate to the Republican incumbent, Ron Johnson. Unions in Wisconsin are celebrating the mostly favorable election results in the midterms in what many feared might have been a “red wave.” Labor Radio talked to Christina Brey, spokeswoman for the Wisconsin Education Association Council about the results. Wisconsin Education Association Council advocates for great public education for the common good.
