“We have to radically reenvision our food system and de-corporatize it, and then I think we’ll see a shift to a more healthy and just way of growing food.”
Today, Christopher Carter joins guest host Karma Chávez for a conversation about his new book, The Spirit of Soul Food. They talk about Black veganism, the history of soul food, reimagining farming for a more just world, and much more.
Christopher Carter is assistant professor, assistant chair, and department diversity officer in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Diego. He is co-editor with Brianne Donaldson of The Future of Meat Without Animals (Rownman & Littlefield, 2016) and author of The Spirit of Soul Food: Race, Faith, and Food Justice (University of Illinois Press, 2021).
