Last month, the Madison City Plan Commission unanimously approved a proposal to update and expand the Salvation Army homeless shelter on the east side.
On today’s episode, we learn about the details of this project and the community’s response with Salvation Army director of social services Melissa Sorenson, city planner Tim Parks, and community development supervisor Linette Rhodes.
They discuss the work of the Salvation Army, the city permitting process, the role of mixed development in addressing Madison’s housing needs, concerns from local residents about neighborhood safety, and what listeners can do this holiday season to support initiatives for the homeless.
