Internally illuminated mummies, red and black directional signs for wandering wayfarers, bloody reminders of the Black Hawk War, bouquets of discarded boats, framed reflecting rectangles, figures from famous paintings standing by the shore… a collection of artifacts this offbeat can mean only one thing: it’s Blink! grant season again. Blink! is the City of Madison’s temporary art grant program. It’s based on the paradoxical premise that ephemeral, unexpected art sometimes leaves a more lasting impression than monumental works built for eternity. This year, several Blink! grant recipients have their eye on the watery aorta of the Madison Isthmus, the Yahara River.
