It’s a busy time for legislators at the Capitol. In the first half of the hour, Carousel Bayrd explores a bill, currently in reconciliation, that would open up a large chunk of Wisconsin’s wetlands to development. With Carousel to explain the importance of wetlands, and how this bill would change Wisconsin’s wetland landscape, is Ryan Billingham, Communications Director at the League of Conservation Voters.
Then: while Wisconsin has had protections for sexual orientation for decades, there are no statutory protections at the state or federal level for gender identity and expression. The City of Madison currently has discrimination protections for gender identity and expression, but current legislation (Assembly Bill 748 and Senate Bill 634) would eliminate municipality protections for protected classes, including gender identity and expression. With Carousel to discuss the implications of this legislation is Byron Bishop, Equal Opportunities Director at the Madison Office of Civil Rights and Megin McDonnell, Executive Director at advocacy group Fair Wisconsin.
