Today we end our monthly theme of Ebony Expressions: Art for Hope, Help and Healing with a bang. Three musical artists featuring a mixture of gospel, rap, R&B, and hip hop join the conversation: Roderquita Moore, Domi Lee, and Lo Key. Today we get the story behind the music.
Roderquita Moore, a gospel artist, said the support she received from her family growing up was a key component to her success. Moore moved to Madison from Georgia after finishing her doctorate in chemistry. She is currently a Research Chemist for the USDA Forest Service Products Laboratory. She is able to continue her passion of music through worship and teaching gospel.
“One thing about gospel music is is basically an emotion, but you also need to have the anointing. It’s not something that comes overnight, it comes through life lessons. But even in the process of that , there’s still some skills, some lessons that can be learned on how to breathe,” Moore said.
Moore said finding the balance of her left-brained, logical science side and her creative. musical side has helped her in teaching and inspiring youth the find talent within themselves.
