The inability to find a living wage job is the #1 cause of recidivism in Wisconsin, where 93% of formerly incarcerated people between the ages of 25 and 44 actively seek work, while being five times more likely to be unemployed than the average American, according to Melissa Ludin, Smart Justice Regional Organizer of the ACLU of Wisconsin. Two bills in the state legislature are aimed at expunging the records of some individuals with a felony on their record, AB69 (passed by the Assembly) and SB78 (in consideration by the Senate), which would significantly increase their ability to make a living.
