WORT Fall Pledge Drive: Resisting the Status Quo
We chose “Resisting the Status Quo” for the Fall 2017 Pledge Drive because that’s been WORT’s mantra since we went on the air in 1975.
WORT was established by people with no background in radio. They wanted a radio station by the community for the community. A radio station that went beyond the status quo. Playing music no one else played. Reporting news neglected by commercial or public media. And for 42 years you have responded. In fact, you just voted us favorite Madison area radio station again this year!
Would you like us to continue to play the music and air the news that resists the status quo? Because it really is up to you. We exist because you dreamt us, built us, and have supported us for 42 years.
Help us continue to bring you radical radio by donating today.
You’ve told us that you aren’t happy with the social status quo. You aren’t happy with the relaxation of environmental standards and the resulting pollution of our lakes and our land. You aren’t happy with the racism, homophobia and misogyny that have only increased in the last year. You aren’t happy with voting restrictions and gerrymandering.
Our Fall Pledge Drive t-shirt is in tune with that message. Resist radio conformity, resist a polite response to the forces that threaten an equitable society.
Pledge now. And check out the great shows we have planned for you in the next two weeks. We promise not to say the WORT “toque” (or tuke, depending on your pronunciation) more than once an hour.*
PS—We also have a sweet deal that comes with our WORT pint glass. Check it out here.
* (Gentle ribbing of WPR, who offered a toque thank you gift but insisted on pronouncing it tuke).
