Have you ever put any thought into the type of vessel that you’d want to be buried in? Maybe you have, maybe you haven’t – but this next story will make you think about your burial in a different way. Our next guest is the Owner of the Kane Kwei Carpentry Workshop in Teshie, Ghana where they build what they call Ghana’s Original “Fantasy Coffins.”
The coffins, also popularly known as abebuu adekai or “proverb boxes,” have quickly become one of Ghana’s most unique traditions. They are meant to symbolize a person’s “favorite thing” and our guest has sculpted coffins that look like crabs, ears of corn, airplanes, semi-trucks, lobsters and even a Twix bars.
Kane Kwei joins Eight O’Clock Buzz host Sam Matteson on the phone.
