On March 6, 2015, Tony Robinson was fatally shot by Madison police officer Matt Kenny. The killing prompted a surge of activist response and criticism of the police department’s training, and resulted in an audit of the MPD and 177 recommended changes to the police department’s operations.
On this edition of the 8 O’Clock Buzz, host Stan Woodard speaks to the family of Tony Robinson about a memorial planned for the fifth anniversary of his passing. Sharon Irwin, his grandmother, and Lorien Carter, his aunt, preview the celebration of his life on Friday, March 6, 2020.
There will be a celebration and fashion show at the Wilmar Neighborhood Center from 3-5 pm. A candlelight vigil will be held at 5:30 pm at the Social Justice Center, with an open mic and photo exhibit to follow at 7 pm. At 9pm, there will be an open mic at Cafe Coda.
