Today in 1965: Malcolm X, an African-American nationalist and religious leader, is shot and killed in New York City by Black Muslims with whom he had broken the year before, as he addresses his Organization of Afro-American Unity at the Audubon Ballroom in New York City.
His home had been firebombed just a few days earlier. He was 39 years old.

Tomorrow is “In The Spirit of Progress,” a community celebration to honor the history, struggle, challenges and accomplishments in Black History. Local artists will highlight an aspect of what Black History means for different members of our community. Entertainment includes African and contemporary dances, negro spiritual, spoken word, speeches, and more. Tomorrow is a Winter Farmers’ Market at the First Unitarian Society. A market-fresh breakfast will be served starting at 9:30am, first come, first served. There is a cost for the brunch.
