From 1965 to 1970, self-taught drummer Clyde Stubblefield played with the James Brown Band, in the process inventing the syncopated foundations of funk, soul and hip-hop. By 1971, Stubblefield had settled in Madison, where for the next forty years he held court, playing weekly Monday gigs, first with the Clyde Stubblefield Band, then with the Clyde Stubblefield All Stars. After the funky drummer’s death in February of 2017, his bandmates carried on the tradition with Funky Mondays at the High Noon Saloon. Tonight marks the last time the All Stars will play Funky Mondays… but don’t despair. The AllStars aren’t going away, they’re just moving to Funky Fridays instead. Joining 8 O’Clock Buzz host Brian Standing in the studio is Joey B Banks, musical director for the Clyde Stubblefield AllStars and Gabe Burdulis, guitar player with the AllStars.
