On INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY, March 8th, 2013, Jonathan Zarov spoke with Jennifer Weitzel, co-founder and Chair of Health Ministries for Haiti, and Julia Baumgartner, project coordinator for LA FEM in NICARUAGUA, about their work and also about the film, Girl Rising.
Jennifer Weitzel
has her bachelors and masters degrees in nursing from UW – Madison. She is currently employed as a public health nurse for Public Health Madison & Dane County and as a clinical instructor for Edgewood College School of Nursing. She is co-founder and Chair of Health Ministries for Haiti, a non-profit organization that partners with a Haitian clinic to bring primary care and public health services to 75,000 residents in and around the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince. Her work domestically and abroad is focused on promoting health equity.
Julia Baumgartner
is project coordinator for LA FEM in NICARUAGUA . she has been working for the past 6 months helping 20 women from la fem rebuild homes, gain access to land, and diversify their farms after being hit by a devastating landslide as part of La Fem’s larger focus of empowering rural women through a number of different projects.
