In a time when decisions over power, police, and policing are even more closely examined, WORT will host a discussion with a decision-maker in charge of the hiring, firing, and discipline over Madison’s Police and Fire Departments.
The Madison Police and Fire Commission, or PFC, is a five-member board that has disciplinary authority over the Madison Police Department. It’s an independent statutory body that oversees the hiring, promotion, discipline, and termination of police and fire personnel in the City of Madison. It’s currently in the process of selecting a new Madison Chief of Police, and asking for community input over the decision.
There are a variety of ways to provide input on the hire to the PFC. One opportunity is on WORT’s noontime listener call-in show, A Public Affair, on September 1, 2020, from noon to 1pm. PFC Commissioner Mary Schauf, a retired captain with the Madison Police Department, will be the guest for the hour.
Call in with your comment or question, and it will be entered into the official record for the search for the next Madison Chief of Police. The number to call, from noon to 1pm, is: 608-256-2001, extension 9. The goal is for the conversation to be driven by listeners, so please call in. Any questions or concerns may be directed to: chali@wortfm.org and talk@wortfm.org.
