Henry Gray is the subject of a radio special this Saturday night on Two For the Blues at 8 PM Central time. Henry was a blues piano player and singer born in Kenner, Louisiana. He performed the blues over 7 decades. He moved to Chicago in the late 1940s and worked with many legends of the blues, most notably, Howlin’ Wolf for whom he played piano for 12 years before returning to Louisiana. He formed the band Henry Gray & The Cats in 2001 and continued to play and release albums over the years. His last release was titled 92 in 2017, which was his age at the time of the recording. He died last February. Henry Gray has a special place in my heart as I wrote an article based on my interviews with him which was published in the British blues magazine, Blues and Rhythm. This show will include music and an interview that covers his entire career. It was originally broadcast in July 2004 and has not been heard since.
