Bringing a bit of theater into WORT musical airwaves, members of Fermat’s Last Theater Company joined Martin Alvarado of Global Revolutions in the virtual studio on Monday July 25, 2022 to talk about Hovering Above the Abyss: An evening with Franz Kafka. The multimedia features images, music, and the words of Franz Kafka.
The segment started with a sparse and haunting flute performance by Katelyn McCain of “Syrinx” by Claude Debussy. Maggie Schenk and Alex Hancock read an excerpt from Kafka’s “The Castle” that looked at the conflict between individuals, bureaucracy, and a system of authority. Professor Hans Adler gave context on the work of Kafka and how the themes of alienation, truth, and power resonate with our current political moments.
