How is WORT dealing with COVID-19?
Updated March 25, 2020.
The simple answer: We’ve hunkered down.
To limit the possible transmission of coronavirus and to comply with state public health orders, WORT is indefinitely closed to volunteers and visitors.
Most of our interviews are conducted via phone, some of our hosts are producing their show from home, and we’re rebroadcasting some shows.
Many of our music hosts are stitching together fresh shows. Talk hosts are live, and hosting by phone or Skype. And our reporters are hard at work remotely gathering news and information on the fallout and consequences of this virus. We still could not air vital news and community voices without our mighty volunteers.
To our listeners: we appreciate your patience with varying levels of audio fidelity! And since we’re airing some previously-aired programming, we appreciate your patience with fleeting references to inaccurate times, dates, and events.
We know our dedicated sponsors are being hit hard by closures. We encourage you to support your local restaurants by ordering take-out from those still open, participating in virtual events and exhibits, and by making a contribution to nonprofit arts organizations that have had their events cancelled.
We know many of you are facing economic ramifications due to unexpected child care costs, having hours cut or being out-of-work completely, etc. Paying your pledge is not a priority. Fulfill your pledge when it works best for you. Some pledgers have called to ask how they can fulfill their pledges. There are a couple of options: send us a check or credit card info by using the remittance envelope included with your thank you card. Or, pledge online and be sure to use the comment field to let us know “This donation is to fulfill my Winter Pledge.”
We ask your forbearance in waiting to pick up thank you gifts until after April 15th. The new hoodies will not be available before then and we hope you don’t mind waiting a little extra time for any other gift.
For now, our doors are locked. But we look forward to a future when WORT is again humming along with activity. Our airwaves are still brimming with local voices, information, news and music. We hope this helps you stay connected to your community. Stay healthy!
