Frank Zappa once said, “Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny.” In fact, the jazz form continues to inspire new generations of musicians, and continues to evolve. Madison’s Jazz Consortium recently put together a series of concerts, called InDIGenous, that spotlight working jazz musicians, all from the upper midwest, and all playing brand new works. No dead guys here… these are musicians you can catch performing live in clubs in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota. You still have time to catch the last of this particular series, featuring trumpeter Paul Dietrich and his quintet performing at the Madison Central Library, this Thursday April 30th at 7pm. Rob Lundberg is the Venue Development Coordinator for the Madison Jazz Consortium, and he is joined by Nicholas Moran.
