Last month, the Wisconsin Municipal Mutual Insurance Company decided to settle a wrongful death lawsuit brought against the City of Madison for the 2015 shooting of Tony Robinson by Madison Police officer Matt Kenny. The $3.4 million settlement is the largest in Wisconsin history for a police-involved shooting.
Madison Mayor Paul Soglin and Madison Police Chief Mike Koval both immediately decried the settlement in separate statements. The plaintiffs in the case, though, have a decidedly different interpretation, and have hailed the settlement as at least delayed and partial justice for Tony Robinson’s death. Joining the 8 O’Clock Buzz by phone are David Owens and Anand Swaminathan, two of the attorneys who represented the Tony Robinson Estate and family in the case.
