On this day in 1804, former United States Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton died in a duel with Vice President Aaron Burr. The event, along with the life of Hamilton, is fictionalized in the 2015 award-winning musical Hamilton. The musical uses R&B and hip-hop beats for its music and casts people of color in the roles of the American Founding Fathers.
Today from noon to 7:00pm, Project Recovery and the Community Action Coalition are hosting a pop-up COVID vaccination clinic at Jason Glenn Salon. No ID necessary. Vaccinations are available for individuals twelve years of age and older. All three vaccine types will be available. No registration necessary, simply show up at Jason Glenn Salon.

Today in 1936 was the hottest temperature ever recorded in Wisconsin. According to the book Oddball Wisconsin, Wisconsin Dells in Columbia County logged one hundred fourteen degrees Fahrenheit! I don’t know about you, but we’re too far north for that kind of weather.
There’s a lot of fun happening at Aldo-Leopard Park this evening. A light dinner kicks off the event at 5:00pm. The DREAM bus mobile library arrives at 5:15pm. At 5:30pm, the Madison Public Library is hosting a bilingual storytime, with activities happening in English and Spanish. The evening ends with a free showing of Raya and the Last Dragon at 6:00pm. Today in 1836 marks the release of Milwaukee’s first newspaper, the Milwaukee Advertiser. The first publisher was Daniel H. Richards, with editor Hans Crocker. Richards was a politician and newspaper editor. Crocker went on to become mayor of Milwaukee for one term in 1853.

Today in 1843, Laura Ross Wolcott was born. Wolcott was born in Maine and attended school in New England before being privately educated in medicine at Harvard. She later moved to Wisconsin and became Wisconsin’s first woman physician in the state, and the third woman physician in the nation.
