On today’s date in 1893, Henri Desgrange set the first world record for the bicycle for cycling at 22 miles per hour. This is one of twelve world records Desgrange will set for the bicycle. Desgrange is also credited for founding the Tour de France in 1903.
The City of Madison is hosting a virtual public meeting about the Bus Rapid Transit project tonight. According to the city of Madison website, this meeting will cover updates on east and west terminals, station configurations at select intersections, and the status of the station design competition. On this date in 1967, the Jimi Hendrix Experience released his first LP in the UK. Titled “Are You Experienced,” the LP spent 33 weeks on the charts, peaking at the number two slot. “Are You Experienced” is one of the most influential debut albums in music history.
The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County is hosting a COVID-19 Community Vaccination Town Hall today at Four PM. Moderated by Dr. Nestor Rodriguez, topics for the town hall will include the impact of COVID-19, hesitancy in communities to get vaccinated, a breakdown of COVID-19 vaccines, and personal stories of vaccination. Today in 1767, the opera Apollo et Hyacinthus premieres in Salzburg. The opera follows the Greek myth of Apollo and Hyacinth, who were lovers. While playing a game, Apollo seriously injures Hyacinth, who dies from the injury. Apollo makes a flower to remember his lover. The opera was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the age of eleven.

Make48 is a 48-hour makers competitions where teams are given a challenge, build a prototype, sales sheet, and 1-minute video to pitch the invention to judges. Music: Which Side Are You On?
Today in 1953, Milwaukee workers began a 10-week strike to demand contacts and wages comparable to workers on the East and West coasts. The strike spread across six breweries: Schlitz, Pabst, Miller, Gettelman, Independent Milwaukee, and Blatz. The strike won when Blatz Brewery accepted the workers’ demands.
The Third annual Break-Away three-on-three basketball tournament series continues this evening at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center. Participation is open to middle and high schoolers.
