The National Guard has been in the public eye a lot more this past year as they’ve been called to assist with major events like protests, the presidential inauguration, and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.
But they have also come under scrutiny as reporters like Katelyn Ferral from the Cap Times investigate allegations of sexual assault and other misconduct.
Today, Katelyn Ferral joins us to talk about her work investigating the National Guard, breaking the Megan Plunkett story in 2019, and her latest reporting on sexual assault in the Wisconsin National Guard.
Katelyn Ferral is an investigative and public affairs reporter for the Cap Times. She examined sexual assault in the National Guard, both in Wisconsin and nationally, while she was an O’Brien Fellow for Public Service Journalism at Marquette University in 2019–2020.
