Bamilo, one of Iran’s two main online shopping websites, held its first version of Black Friday, called Harajome or Friday sale, last week.
Bamilo said it had more than 100,000 pre-subscriber to the sale and over 600 retailers participating to offer special prices on the most-wanted items.
Bamilo’s founder and CEO, Ramtin Monazahian, said his company prepared for Harajome by mixing offline and online marketing efforts.
They did things like organize bus tours around several key cities where they distributed special internet packets for a local service provider.
They also set up partnerships with leading internet providers, banks, payment providers and international brands to make buying and paying available to Iranians because they still do not have Visa and Mastercard.
