We’ll be celebrating the life of Jody Williams on tonight’s edition of Two for the Blues from 8-10 PM. Jody died on 12/1/2018 at age 83. Jody got his start playing on street corners and talent shows with Bo Diddley in a group known as Ellis McDaniels and the Hipsters (Ellis is Bo Diddley’s original name). He became a major studio guitarist for Chess as well as producing music under his own name in the 1950s. Jody became disenchanted with the music business and his guitar gathered dust under his bed for several decades until his comeback in 2001 at the Chicago Blues Festival. I interviewed him for a radio special I did in April 2002. I’ll be using that interview plus music from both his session work with others plus his 2 Evidence Records releases, Return of a Legend and You Left Me in the Dark.
About Two for the Blues
Blues from the 1920s to the present with a little zydeco and southern soul added to the mix, hosted by Art Schuna and Dave Leucinger. Since 1999, the show has done special features on blues artists including interviews discussing their careers and music. Unfortunately, we can't give you the music without violating copyright acts but we can give you the interviews.
