To celebrate Juneteenth, which was declared a federal holiday last year, today we aired a special broadcast on A Public Affair.
First, we present an episode of the Counter Stories podcast out of Minnesota. Rose McGee, the founder and president of Sweet Potato Comfort Pie and author of Kumbayah: The Juneteenth Story joins the hosts for “A Dive Into Juneteenth.”
Then, we play a clip from when former WORT assistant news director Jonah Chester took to the streets last year to hear what Juneteenth means to people in Madison.
In the final segment, we rebroadcast Jan Miyasaki’s 8 O’Clock Buzz interview with historian Gerald Horne from 2019 about celebrating the 4th of July and his book White Supremacy Confronted.
