This is the Insurgent Radio Kiosk for Monday, December 9th
Greetings, Mary Helen here, inviting concerned citizens, again, to participate in a Nationwide Citizens Commission on the monetary system and Just Money.
Last week on the Kiosk I delivered the shocking news that our money is not created by the government as we suppose, rather by corporate banks which enjoy the special privilege of gleaning the initial value from every new dollar they lend.
Besides reaping the initial value from every dollar, in our current system the banks allocate the new money! Pressing Interest obligations on all the money force banks to lend for quick returns, never on long term investments for the common good. Like affordable housing, the conversation stopper is, “Ya, well how you gonna pay for it?” Which actually means, “How will you pay the interest?”
Just Money reformers ask, “why is there no interestfree money available for productive work that strengthens the commons?”
What to do? First, let’s get informed. Remember that only twenty years ago the corporations’ ruthless focus on profit was barely recognized in the mainstream? Now everybody knows!
When the next financial shock hits, informed citizens could elect a Congress with the guts to take back control of the money supply. This will undermine stupid austerity, plus, bonus! It will shore up humans’ ambitious historical attempt at self governance.
Our study group meets at Central Library, 1: 00 Tuesdays thru December 17, discussing one chapter each week from the book,LOST SCIENCE OF MONEY, (THE MYTHOLOGY OF MONEY. THE HISTORY OF POWER), by Stephen Zarlenga. It is available online in pdf.
The kiosk brings you commentaries from members of the public. All opinions expressed are those of the speakers. Have an idea for your own two-minute commentary? Go to wortfm.org/kioskcommentary.
