Kathy (a.k.a. Tuesday Morning Queen of Communications) is currently the volunteer receptionist for the Tuesday 8 O’clock Buzz and One Fine Morning.
WORT: When did you get started volunteering with the station?
Kathy: I’ve had my radio tuned to WORT for as long as I can remember, but I didn’t start volunteering until February of 2015, taking pledges during the Spring drive. Dave Leucinger encouraged me to apply, but there is no way I’d be here without (Volunteer Coordinator) Glenn Mitroff believing I could do this.
WORT is a happy and positive place. You walk out at the end of your shift, wanting to come back for the next!

What do you like to do when you’re not at the station?
I have a standard poodle named Olive I love to care for. I’ve taught her to jump thru a hula hoop and juggle (not really). Dogs always mess up catch and fetch.
I have little transistor radio tuned to 89.9 and walk around the house with it in my pocket. I leave it for Olive when I’m out of the house and it keeps her company.
What is your favorite show on WORT?
The Tuesday 8 O’clock Buzz with Aaron Perry and Haywood Simmons.
What is something that only a WORT receptionist would know?
The thing that happens when someone walks through the door for the first time is that they get caught up in all the stuff on the wall. Everyone’s staring at the posters and the art. That’s one thing a WORT receptionist would know. Another thing is how much coffee gets made here everyday. Pots and pots of coffee. Recently I was the receptionist for a 3 hour pledge drive shift and made no less than 6 pots of coffee!
Why should the Madison community listen to WORT?
This is the only place you can get up-to-date, honest, truthful news about Madison and the surrounding community.
Do you have any WORT stories?
I recently met Mad Marcus and his wife Sheryl. I was finally able to put a face to that voice. Turns out he’s really not mad at all!
If you were to give any advice to a new member of WORT what would it be?
Enjoy the ride, and take it all in.
