Madison City Council members. They decide how much your parking tickets and bus fares cost. They determine how many police and firefighters the city will hire. They choose how many snow plows and garbage trucks the city can afford. They influence the look and feel of our neighborhoods – how many bars there can be, how tall the buildings are, where a new library or park will be built. They can encourage or limit development.
The choices they make affect your tax bill every year, and the services you receive. They create the local rules we live by.
And you get to choose them.
There are 20 council members, each representing a specific area of the city. All of them are up for election this year.
In 5 districts, you have a choice about your vote. Election day is April 4th.
In conjunction with Isthmus, Madison’s weekly newspaper, we’re airing a series of candidate debates. Isthmus Staff Writer Dylan Brogan sat down with your candidates to learn what the big issues are in each race.
