You might be forgiven for missing Lake Ivanhoe, Wisconsin if you drive by on Highway 50 on your way to Lake Geneva. In 2020, there were only 426 year-round residents in the southern Wisconsin community. But Lake Ivanhoe has a unique history – it was a thriving African American resort in the 1920s – a place built specifically to give black urbanites space to escape and relax. This year, the spot got a historical marker, part of the Wisconsin Historical Society’s efforts to rectify gaps in the historical record of the state. Angela Titus is the Asst. Deputy Director & Chief Program Officer for the Wisconsin Historical Society and she joined Monday Buzz host Brian Standing on February 27, 2023.
