With the presidential election four weeks away… it’s debate season.
WORT will carry live coverage of the vice presidential debate, the only VP debate this election, on Wednesday, October 7th from 8-10:30pm.
From 8-9:30 pm, listen to Vice President Mike Pence and Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris duke it out live from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Susan Page, Washington Bureau Chief for USA Today, will moderate the debate.
Then, stay tuned in for expert analysis from our partners at Pacifica Network. This broadcast will be anchored by Gloria Browne Marshall and Johanna Fernandez, both of community radio WBAI in New York City.
About the anchors
Gloria Browne-Marshall is a tenured Professor of Law at John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York (CUNY). She is a legal correspondent covering the US Supreme Court for WBAI 99.5 FM, where she also hosts an hour-long weekly radio program titled “Law of the Land“. She is the author of The Voting Rights War: The NAACP and the Ongoing Struggle for Justice, among other titles, and has litigated cases for the Southern Poverty Law Center and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Inc.
Johanna Fernandez is a Professor of History at Baruch College at the City University of New York (CUNY), where she teaches 20th-century U.S. history, the history of social movements, the political economy of American cities, and African-American history. She is the author of the 2020 title The Young Lords: A Radical History, a history of the Puerto Rican counterpart of the Black Panther Party. She is the editor of Writing on the Wall, Selected Prisons Writings of Mumia Abu-Jamal, and is also the writer and producer of the film Justice on Trial: the Case of Mumia Abu-Jamal. She is a guest on a variety of media outlets, including National Public Radio and Democracy Now!.
