With impending chaos in the Middle East, President Barack Obama, may choose to launch an attack on Syria. To talk about this issue and the history behind it, our host Allen Ruff talked with Robert Parry, investigative journalist and founder-editor of the “Consortium News” and UW-Madison Professor of Middle Eastern Studies Jennifer Loewenstein.
According to Consortiumnews.com,“Robert Parry broke many of the Iran-Contra stories in the 1980s for the Associated Press and Newsweek. He founded Consortiumnews.com in 1995 as the Internet’s first investigative magazine. He saw it as a way to combine modern technology and old-fashioned journalism to counter the increasing triviality of the mainstream U.S. news media.” With that being said, Ruff and Parry discussed the longer context of state lies and secrets dating back to the CIA- engineered 1953 coup of Iran’s Muhammed Mossadegh, the lies and perfidy of the Reagan years known as the “Iran-Contra Affair,” and how all of it brings us to where we are today as another US President stands on the brink again forced to choose whether or not to launch an attack on the crisis-stricken Middle East.
