The WORT-FM series, Our Faith Communities, takes an (audio) glimpse into some of the faith communities that are an integral part of the life of our community.
In this segment, we listen in on the Madinah (Islam) Community Center-located just off the Beltline on the Westside. The Community Center houses a religious community for its followers- who are primarily Mid and Near-Eastern.
I attended mid-day prayer in a large room that was filled to capacity. The service began with the moving call to prayer (“adhan”) which was followed by a sermon by Iman Jallow. The sermon, in English and Arabic, focused on the upcoming month-long Ramadan which requires fasting from sun-up to sundown.
Following the service, I interviewed Iman Jallow and discussed what he believes to be a “faithful” Muslim and if Muslims have a personal relationship with God.
