Five years after its formal incorporation as a nonprofit, the Madison Classical Guitar Society will sponsor our city’s first Classical Guitar Festival on Oct. 5th at the Overture Center. The widely varied program highlights the contributions of up-and-coming female guitarists. In addition to headliners Ioana Gandrabur, Elina Chekan, and Frances Karim Chiroque, the day-long festival will feature a master class by René Izquierdo and performances by local students and ensembles as well as displays by makers of guitars and purveyors of sheet music and guitar accessories. MCGS President Christopher Allen joined WORT’s Peter Haney in the studio to talk about the festival. The interview includes a selection from a performance by Ioana Gandrabur of her transcription of a sonata by Sylvius Leopold Weiss.
