Three years ago, the city of Madison hired Toriana Pettaway as its first racial equity coordinator.
Now, Pettaway wants to promote equality from higher up in the city structure. So she’s running for mayor.
Pettaway joins a handful of others already in the race, including former city alders Brenda Konkel and Satya Rhodes Conway, along with current alder Mo Cheeks.
The primary for the mayor’s race is in February. Mayor Paul Soglin announced this summer that he won’t seek reelection.
