On this episode we’re bringing you a live conversation with most of the people running to be the next mayor of Madison. The event was called “Madison’s Arts Future: A Mayoral Candidate Forum on the Arts, Culture and Creativity,” and it took place this past Wednesday, January 16, at the Barrymore Theatre on Madison’s east side. We heard from Satya Rhodes-Conway, Mo Cheeks, Raj Shukla, Nick Hart, and Toriana Pettaway about how they think the city of Madison should go about increasing access to the arts and making our community a better place for artists to live and work. The incumbent mayor, Paul Soglin, did not attend the forum, citing a scheduling conflict.
The event was presented by Arts + Literature Laboratory and by us here at Tone Madison, with help from a bunch of sponsors and volunteers. About 400 people attended, which tells us that these are conversations that voters in Madison really care about having. We’re going to be sharing some analysis of the forum in the days ahead, but for now, here’s the full audio of the forum Don’t forget to vote in the mayoral primary on February 19 and the spring election on April 2. Go to myvote.wi.gov to make sure that you know your polling place and have your ID, and make a plan to vote.
