We’re entering week three of the government shutdown with no end in sight. A number of government agencies are deemed “essential” and will continued to function as usual, like the military and TSA. But for those agencies that aren’t so lucky to have that designation, dire consequences are starting to emerge from the wreckage of national politics. The National Park Service reports acts of vandalism and littering in the parks, as there are no employees to maintain the peace. And three people have died since the shutdown began, but NPS employees do not have the resources for traditional full scale investigations.
