Melanin Speaking is a UW student group dedicated to giving multicultural voices and students of color a platform and safe space to speak on issues relating to self, social identity, the UW campus and society-at-large. It’s a student run publication for graduate and undergraduate student artists. Accepting a wide range of content from poetry and prose to visual art, it seeks to uplift voices that often go unheard at UW. The organization’s goal is to foster a creative community of students of color and to validate their art and their stories. Joining Jonathan by phone is Sam Adams, president and cofounder of the organization.
