Who’s running for governor?
That’s a question many are asking as we approach the 2018 gubernatorial race. Governor Scott Walker is seeking reelection… but against who?
So far only one candidate has thrown his hat in the ring. But a WORT volunteer might be jumping in as well.
There is a movement across the state to draft Mike McCabe for governor. After receiving a letter asking McCabe to run, he responded, “I am willing to do this, and I obviously can’t do it alone.” McCabe discussed the many things that need to fall into place over the course of the summer so that he may launch a campaign around Labor Day.
Should McCabe run, he acknowledges the challenges standing in his way. Financially, he can’t compete with Walker’s campaign power, and as a nonpartisan, he must grapple with party affiliations. However, he has faith that Wisconsinites are seeking change that he can bring.
McCabe commends those who’ve decided to “get off the sidelines and take matters into their own hands.” He expressed his gratitude to those who have motivated him to consider running for governor and feels honored that they see in him what they are looking for.
Usually, you’d hear him for our weekly Democracy Check Up on Thursday night, but today Mike McCabe sat down with Producer Alejandro Alonso Galva to discuss his potential run for the governor’s mansion.
