The Isthmus Jazz Festival, Madison’s perennial summer jazz outing, went dark this year because of the pandemic. Most festivals are canceling their summer concerts, leaving fans longing for live music. The Thursday, July 2 edition of Strictly Jazz Sounds will scratch that itch. The 3 o’clock hour will be packed with the sounds of the Newport Jazz Festival including Duke Ellington with Paul Gonsalves blowing a 27 chorus-solo, Oscar Peterson with Roy Eldridge and Sonny Stitt, Mary Lou Williams with Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Sarah Vaughan and closing with Miles Davis. Then we roll on to the Village Vanguard for the third hour featuring John Coltrane, Geri Allen, Betty Carter and Sonny Rollins. Get your festival fix by tuning in to Strictly Jazz Sounds on Thursday July 2 at 2:00 CDT only on WORT89.9-FM, your place for jazz!
