Today in 1921: Italian immigrants Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti are convicted of first-degree murder in Dedham, Massachusetts.
Seven years ago, the two vocally questioned the so-called suicide of anarchist Andrea Salsedo in a Bureau of Investigation office in New York. This prompted their arrest on charges of murdering a guard during an unrelated shoe-factory robbery in 1920.
Trial records will suggest Sacco and Vanzetti have been framed. International protest will not spare the most famous Red Scare victims from their execution in 1927.
