In 2017, the OIR Group (an organization that does independent police oversight and review) researched the Madison Police Department’s policies, practices, procedures, and culture. The resulting report offers 146 recommendations, all of which have been reviewed by the Madison Police Department Policy & Procedure Review Ad Hoc Committee with community input over the past couple years.
Last summer, we checked in with Keith Findley, co-chair of the ad hoc committee. Today, we get an update from committee members Matthew Braunginn and Veronica Figueroa. They discuss their goals for the police department, including better police-community relations and achieving racial justice in law enforcement practice.
