Radio Astronomy co-hosts Aaron Lopez and Brianna Smart discuss TESS or Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, which is NASA’s new spacecraft. They are using it as a follow up to the Kepler mission. The stars TESS will study are 30 to 100 times brighter than those of Kepler. NASA plans to have TESS survey the entire sky in the course of two years. TESS will use the transit method. The transit method for exoplanets is finding dips in visible light and stars. The hope for TESS is to find planets outside of this solar system.
