Two years ago, the Arts and Literature Laboratory moved from its birthplace in New Haven, Connecticut to another college town here in Madison, Wisconsin. Since landing at its new home in a former print shop at 2021 Winnebago Street, the Laboratory has settled in nicely, bringing an eclectic mix of poetry, literature, performance and visual art to the Shenk Atwood Neighborhood’s already bustling art scene.
To kick off Women’s History Month, the Lab is hosting a “Nasty Women” poetry reading event on Saturday, March 18, to benefit Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. Today and next week, we’ll be hearing from featured poets from the Nasty Women series. Today, we feature two poets: Lindsay Tigue, 2016 winner of the Iowa Poetry Prize and currently a PhD student in Creative Writing at the University of Georgia. Welcome, Lindsay. Our second poet today is Kara Candito, winner of the Aghad Shahid Ali Poetry Prize, a Prairie Schooner Prize and a Pushcart Prize, among others.
